Rescue console

It would be very good if there was a rescue console option in the dashboard. This option would have a time limit (not to be used instead of normal ssh) and would work so that we could connect to the server "directly" without ssh. This feature would help in the case of complications when it is not possible to connect via ssh (e.g. firewall without SSH).

I will need console access if I want to encrypt the entire VM disk.

Hello - we reopened this origina post and merged your latest request here. Good news: This is in progress and initial PoC work has already been completed on bringing full console access to VMs. Unfortunately, a lot of our staff is just about to go on summer vacation, so finalizing and testing/deploying this will have to wait for a few weeks. We will update here once released.

Without knowing how network or ssh is broken or firewalled in a machine this predicates we would then access the server through some mechanism where we expose a console via the host. This is a very big security risk and we are not even sure it would be possible to engineer something like it without breaking security in all sorts of ways. So this will not be implemented for VPS servers. Fortunately we have really good support so you can just write us and we will get you access by fixing the core issue for you in almost all cases :) When we get dedicated servers in the future, that's a whole different matter - there we would of course provide a rescue console mechanism.

Take a look at Hetzner they have had this feature for a very long time now. When you need access to a rescure console you usually cannot wait for someone to have time for you - speaking of experience :-)
